In the USA, there are 100 million bikes. In Europe the estimated number of bike riders is 200 million. In Holland there are 16.5 million bikes and 27% of all journeys are made by bike. Just in Amsterdam there are 800,000 bikes. More bikes than people! In Germany there are 62 million bikes. There are many countries where bike riding is a major means of transport. For example in China there are 500 million bikes and in Shanghai alone there are 9.4 million bikes http://top10hell.com/top-10-countries-with-most-bicycles-per-capita/
For this reason early in 2019 we started developing a bike light that would be more than a forward focussed front light and a rear light that seems more like an after-thought. We developed lights that have a larger illuminated area projecting light all around the bike so you can be seen from all directions (you can also see in all directions). Light can be constant or flashing. In daylight flashing light attracts attention and is easier to see. The same principle of all around light applies to powered wheelchairs and other mobility vehicles too.
We also wanted to be environmentally responsible, so we added solar panels on the housing to continually charge the built-in batteries and increase battery life. 360 bike lights will have at least 16 hours light on one charge. Depending on use, the solar panels may keep the batteries topped-up and fully charged eliminating the need to use commercially generated electricity so reducing our carbon foot-print. With the optional solar charged power charger pack the batteries can be recharged on the move and while the lights are shining. If necessary, the batteries can also be charged from a phone or USB charger and the solar battery charger pack can be used to charge other rechargeable items such as a phone
We have proved the concept, now we want to turn these prototypes into high quality commercial product. We know it works.
We used standard components from a variety of sources to make prototype 360 bike lights. Now we need to make 360 bike lights with our own specific components. We have developed, manufactured and brought many products to market in the past and have the experience to do this. We plan to manufacture in the UK using a contract manufacturer that we used previously, we know they produce quality product. The leg work has been done over the last few months, any potential hazards have been overcome. We are experienced in bringing product to market.
We know it works.
We have worked with designers and engineers in the past, also organised contract manufacture. The product concept has been tested by us for more than 6 months so we know it works. This is a route we have followed several times. From previous experience we are confident we can move from prototype to manufacture, we have done this before with several sophisticated electronic products and devices. If any difficulties occur they are likely to be related to a delay in receiving components or with the contract manufacturer running over time. We will keep all our supporters informed of progress on a monthly basis.
